indiVISIBLE Black and White Photographs

Title

indiVISIBLE Black and White Photographs

Description

How do I capture the modern age of American agriculture? Do I focus on the idyllic rolling hills, colorful farmhouses, and barns dotted across New England, appealing to the senses of those who daydream of simple days gone by? That true grit "Americana" spirit? No. I do not photograph for ulterior purposes nor promote such idealism (or idols).

A good photograph is unpretentious. It serves to capture the ordinary. To allow our eyes to invest in feelings, not in thoughts.

To some, these photographs will look like amateur snapshots of backyards and barns. And that is my intention. I want all eyes to focus on America's anonymous working person (not the photographer). Those whose names we do not know—and likely never will—who live and work next door to us or next to someone we may know.

And in the process, avoid the fetishization or co-opting of working-class imagery for a particular political "ist" or "ism."

These are emblems of resistance to the prevalent values of celebrity status, the need for instant gratification, and hedonistic consumerism."
